Aldeburgh Holiday Guide
The charming town of Aldeburgh is the perfect seaside destination. Famous for Benjamin Britten, Maggi Hambling’s iconic Scallop Shell on the shingle beach, and the quaint fisherman’s huts selling their daily catch, Aldeburgh is one of the most popular holiday locations on the Heritage Coast.
Take a walk along Aldeburgh’s promenade lined by pretty pastel-coloured 19th century villas and take in the beauty of the unspoilt heritage coastline before sampling the town’s renowned fish and chips! And if you have different culinary tastes there are plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs to tempt you during your holiday.
With many independent shops, boutiques, book shops and antique stores, Aldeburgh’s bustling high street is a haven for shopaholics. There is also a fantastic independent cinema in the town as well as a number of art galleries to keep you entertained.
The coastal town of Aldeburgh is of course most famous for its connection to Benjamin Britten, composer and founder of the extraordinary classical musical festival taking place in June each year and shared with nearby Snape.
Snape Maltings is a few miles along the River Alde and home to the concert hall built by Britten and friends as well as a popular complex of shops and eateries. The delights of the boating lake at Thorpeness and the RSPB wildlife reserve at Minsmere are also within easy reach.
Aldeburgh combines family holiday fun and fantastic cultural experiences and there truly is something for everyone!
