Walberswick Holiday Guide
The village and beach at Walberswick is one of the prettiest on the Suffolk Coast and a self-catering holiday in one of our Walberswick holiday cottages makes for an ideal family holiday retreat or romantic getaway at any time of year.
This charming village is within a few minutes' walk of the sand and pebble beach and the River Blyth, while the picturesque village green, with its swings, hosts a variety of gift and tea shops. There are also two characterful village pubs serving excellent food, as well as a general shop and the Post Office takes place in the Village Hall weekly. Try the Bell Inn or The Anchor or locally sourced food and great fish dishes. The newly opened Black Dog Deli serves delicious black treacle cured bacon butties and freshly ground coffee as well as home made goodies perfect for a picnic on the beach. Pop in to Tinkers on the Village Green for gifts and homewares both vintage and contemporary, or pop into The Parish Lantern for a mooch or a bite to eat.
There's plenty to keep the family occupied: in summer, children go crabbing with their buckets, fishing lines and bait along the river bank and bridges, the annual village fete (usually opened by someone of ‘renown’ living locally!) is hosted in August each year, and Southwold is just a short bike ride or walk away along the river tow-path; or you can take the hand-rowed ferryboat across the River Blyth.
An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are over a thousand acres of heath and marshland around Walberswick, making it a magical place to explore on foot or by bike. Alternatively, you can just sit back and take in the magnificent coastal scenery at one of the many seaside cafes and village pubs in the area. Or watch the surfers and kite surfers, who use the beach on a regular basis, when the wind and tides are right
