The heritage of Old Hall Cottage comes from the building it adjoins being The Old Hall which dates back to 1650. The owners of the house and cottage are unsure which came first, the farmhouse or the cottage - come and stay and decide for yourselves. The cottage sits in a small hamlet of buildings including the village church, a converted barn and some beautiful houses in a variety of architectural styles.
The cottage has its own garden and the house has 14 acres of land in which the owners have created a wildlife haven for the local and migrating wildlife including foxes, owls, kingfishers, woodpeckers and deer. Golden Oriel are summer migrants. Visitors to the cottage are invited to explore the area and the pond and lake, which is used by the family for fishing and is well stocked with carp and other coarse fish. The land was originally a fruit farm and the fishing lake was used for irrigation. It is very deep so children of all ages should not visit it without an adult and appropriate supervision.
Footpaths run through the fields and walkers can link up with a large system of foot and cycle paths. The views to the north are wonderful as they stretch over the Waveney Valley and to the south one can explore the mysterious locality called 'The Saints' where its easy to get lost! The well known St Peter's Brewery can offer hospitality en route along with a number of other lovely pubs serving local beers from St Peter's and Adnams of Southwold.
Other entertainment can include supervised clay pigeon shooting lessons and bikes may be stored in the garage close to the cottage. The pretty market towns of Beccles and Bungay are close by and each offers a wide range of local produce, interesting shops from clothes and gifts to wine and antiques, together with an extensive range of pubs, restaurants and tea shops. Bungay has an excellent indoor swimming pool and Beccles has an outdoor pool in summer. Boats can be hired from Beccles to explore the southern part of the Norfolk Broads. Norwich and Southwold are within easy driving distance.
The cottage itself has been recently renovated and now provides spacious and attractive accommodation whilst keeping the original character, especially in the sitting room with its fire place and woodburning stove. The stylish kitchen and dining area is fully modernised and a utility room houses the all important washing machine and sink. A tumble dryer is located for use in an adjacent shed. The house is heated with a woodburning stove and night storage heaters and is very warm whilst upstairs the bedrooms are all comfortably and prettily furnished with antique style furniture and carefully chosen bedsteads.
