Description

Self Catering National Quality Assurance Standard RatingA holiday at Old Farm, offers a combination of a truly exceptional house in the delightful seaside village of Walberswick on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. Originally the property was the principal farm in the village and in the late 19th century and the early part of the 20th century Old Farm and its gardens provided a social hub for the Walberswick art colony. Visiting artists included Philip Wilson Steer, Charles Rennie MacIntosh and Arthur Rackham. This fine house offers spacious and attractive accommodation in a cottage style with comfortably low ceilings, exposed beams, inglenook fireplaces, and sea views from some of the upstairs windows. The beach at Walberswick is one of the prettiest on this coast with the river running through the marshes and providing some great spots to go crabbing, which children of all ages enjoy. The National Crabbing Championships are held in August every year right here in Walberswick. The central location in the village is another attraction and means that a family can park the car for a week and enjoy walking or cycling around the village and its environs.

The village of Walberswick offers a post office with a well stocked shop selling daily newspapers and local produce, and fresh fish is often available from fishing huts along the River Blyth. Both village pubs serve good food, and there is a small variety of gift shops and cafes. The beach is only 5 minutes walk from Old Farm and offers good swimming and lovely sand dunes and beach huts. Many well signposted walks lead you through national nature reserves to either Dunwich or Blythburgh and the attractive Edwardian seaside town of Southwold can be reached over the Bailey bridge at Blackshore or by the ferry from the edge of the car park in Walberswick. Darsham Station on the A12 is only 15 minutes away by car.

This has been a wonderful venue for our family's gathering. Lovely house, seaside walks, thank you for lending us your beautiful house. The Rays, Easter 2011

Superb week, the whole family loved it. Beach, pub, walks, love Old Farm. Lyn and family October half term 2010
We have stayed at Old Farm with friends and family. It is a beautiful old house perfectly situated for beach and village, safe for children and near family friendly pubs. The accommodation is ideal for friends sharing or extended family groups. The sheltered south facing garden is lovely after a morning on the beach. This house is a real gem! May 201

  • A wonderful relaxing week in this lovely house. We were so comfortable and all slept so well. Barker and Worth families May 2011

Our first time in Suffolk and how fortuitous that we found ourselves in such a characterful home, in such a welcoming village as Walberswick. We shall certainly return. Thanks for the privacy, space and hospitality of your lovely home. Philip and Chris July 2010
