Description
Area Type: Coastal
County: Suffolk
Country: England
Postcode: IP18 6HQ
The location of this house is outstanding: Ferryway is a stunning, newly built, architect designed beachside house on Ferry Road in Southwold, with the bonus of superb views over the dunes and coastline to the east and across the marshes to the town, the common, the landmark water towers and Blackshore harbour to the west.
Secondly, the "wow" factor of this house lies in the interesting design and use of light and space, which makes the most of the rural views. The large living area to the rear of the house, with a wood burning stove for the winter months, has a raised deck with access to the garden which overlooks the fields and marshes. The first floor front sitting room (with double sofa bed) and balcony has views across the dunes to the sea and the distant pier. There is a further sitting area up in the "crows nest" with vistas of the coast through a round window at the front of the house. Even the bathroom has a stunning view towards Gun Hill.
Thirdly, the care and detail which has gone into the design of the space and accommodation is impressive. The kitchen is well arranged and equipped to a high standard; the spacious hall, staircase and landing are full of light with interesting features and artwork decorating the walls.
The comfortable furniture throughout the house has been carefully chosen with some unusual designs creating a contemporary and stylish atmosphere. The two main bedrooms, both with double beds, are well furnished and spacious with views over the marshes and the expansive, ever changing skies and dramatic sunsets.
On the ground floor and accessible for wheel chairs, is a cloakroom, WC and shower together with freezer, drinks fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer facilities.
The house has been designed to accommodate the latest environmentally friendly energy generation systems and natural ventilation systems, plus full double glazing and insulation. Glass has been used imaginatively in room dividers and the staircase area to achieve an open and light environment.
Ferry Road is just out of the busy centre of Southwold and within comfortable walking distance of the shops, pubs and restaurants but the beauty of this house lies in its proximity to the beach. Take just a few short steps across Ferry Road and over the dunes for that early morning swim.
An easy walk to the south will take you to the harbour past the bustling, atmospheric boatyard and fishing boat jetties and huts, where a choice of fresh locally caught fish is available. Walberswick lies across the River Blythe to the south, reached by a bracing walk via the Harbour and across the Bailey bridge or by the rowing boat ferry(seasonal)
A ramped entrance for wheelchairs is in situ, along the side of the house and up on to the decked sitting area.
