Description

Self Catering National Quality Assurance Standard RatingEnjoy the views from the verandah of the Alde Estuary, watching the birds migrating through the year, the wonderful Suffolk skies and the changing light on the water, it is just blissful and so relaxing!

Cliff Cottage was built in 1990 on the site of the River Pilot's old wartime house. It is a Victorian style Suffolk cottage, built of Aldeburgh bricks, with gabled windows and a wide veranda along the river side of the house to take advantage of the wonderful views. It is also a cosy cottage of great charm and character and has all the advantages of modern fittings and equipment, including a designer kitchen, and underfloor heating.

The cottage is largely open plan down stairs with a new fully equipped designer kitchen and dining room/conservatory, with underfloor heating, granite work surfaces and and electric AGA. The living area focuses on a traditional open fireplace, with fitted carpet, Persian rugs, a pair of sofas, antique furniture and French doors onto the extended and partially enclosed verandah.

Upstairs has three bedrooms and two newly fitted bathrooms all of which have superb views down to the river to Iken Church and towards Aldeburgh.

Outside the garden is large and wild with plenty of lawn and dominated by birch, pine and stunted oak trees. A short steep path leads downs to the river's edge and on to the well marked coastal footpath. The house and garden enjoy breathtaking views up and down the estuary on one side and over open fields on the other.

There are public footpaths along the edge of the river below the house and along the lane at the rear of the house. These lead upstream to Snape and the Maltings plus pubs, a restaurant and the village shop, and downstream to the village of Iken itself.
